According to kali.org, Kali Linux (formerly known as BackTrack Linux) is an open-source, Debian-based Linux distribution aimed at advanced Penetration Testing and Security Auditing. It does this by providing common tools, configurations, and automations which allows the user to focus on the task that needs to be completed, not the surrounding activity.

Kali Linux contains industry specific modifications as well as several hundred tools targeted towards various Information Security tasks, such as Penetration Testing, Security Research, Computer Forensics, Reverse Engineering, Vulnerability Management and Red Team Testing.


To install Kali Linux on windows, follow the given steps:

1. Open Powershell in windows, make sure to run it as administrator.

2. Inside powershell, try executing wsl –install.

3. After installation completes, open Microsoft Store.

4. In Microsoft Store, search for “Kali Linux” and Install it in your machine.(I’ve already installed it in my machine that’s why you are seeing “Open” option instead)

5. Now, open “Kali Linux” from the start menu.

After that, set up your kali linux machine. At last, you will see a screen similar to the screenshot attached below:
